Banned Book Club

Have you joined our Banned Book Club yet?

Hiya, nerds!

I’ve got some big news for you! We’re starting a new meme, the Banned Book Club.

Banned book club

Banned Book Club meme

Banned Book Club is a monthly meme at This is Lit to encourage readers to read more challenged and banned books. We’ll pick a challenged book each month and read and review it by the end of the month.

This meme is for bloggers and readers who want to champion the freedom of speech and fight censorship.

Important dates

1. First of every month: The month’s book will be announced and reviews of the previous month’s book will be featured on This is Lit.

2. Last week of the month: Review the book on your blog or Goodreads.

1. Link up with This is Lit so that I can go through your review. Excerpts from the best reviews and their authors will be featured here while announcing the next month’s read.

2. Share this rules post in case anyone else wants to join. Remember, the more the merrier!

3. Visit the other people participating to understand different readers’ opinions.

4. Join our Goodreads group to participate in discussions.

  1. What a cool idea, Shruti! I think it’s important we challenge ourselves. I wonder how many of these books were “banned” for ideas that at the time were seen as controversial but are now considered more socially acceptable, or considered important conversations starters today.

    1. It really is a conversation starter! I was going through a list of banned books which also had the reasons for said ban, and one of the reasons legit was “banned for encouraging homosexuality”.

I’m looking for those kinds of books. Books that were banned for something that wasn’t acceptable back then. If you have any suggestions, do let me know! 🙂

Also, have you checked out our Goodreads group? Do join if you’re interested in participating. 🙂

  2. Oh, this is a great idea! …But I don’t know if I’ll have time to participate this month. 😦 I’ll definitely try though! I’ve been wanting to pick that book up! And, if not this month, I’ll definitely have time next month. 😉

  3. It’s very exciting that you made a book club 🙂 thanks for the invite! Likely I’ll be participating next month though, I once tried reading this and didn’t really like it, I don’t really feel like trying again (although it was ages ago and I might now feel different). Hope you all have fun 🙂

    1. Thanks so much, Evelina! Too bad about this month’s pick. 😦 Maybe look through the reviews if you have time? I found them very convincing.

But I totally understand if you don’t want to try again. I’ve felt that way about some books in the past. 😅 You just don’t want to go through it again. xD
